The story went like this. I was so inspired by all the awesome step photos in insta that I decided I wanted to go exploring by myself to take some cool photos. It was around a few days before my Year 1 Sem 2 attachment began in late March; I really wanted to do something meaningful and fun before that. Thus, I woke up early, did a some research, and went on an adventure. It was kind of a spur-of-the-moment thing, and I felt like I wanted to do this alone, like a trial. So I didn't ask anyone along.
I wanted to find out the location of some cafes that I saw online too, so I did research for them. I have heard many saying that cafes are quite hidden. Since it was also my first time doing something like this, I was afraid to get lost, and the stress just increases if another person came along. Most importantly, I wasn't confident that I could find someone with enough adventurous spirit sharing the same aim as me. As you all know, adventures generally mean loads of walking. And to me, getting lot in the process and a part of it. Hahaha.
1st stop, Outram Park.
If you guys didn't know, there are a few book cafes in SG. The Reading Room is one of them. I went to check it out and discovered that it was combined with a bar, so I was a skeptical and didn't go in. Maybe next time with friends!
I found another book cafe near The Reading Room named Open Book Cafe.
Spotted this cute little display of old shophouses once I entered.
Turns out it was more of a mandarin book cafe because all of the books I saw on the shelves were in Chinese characters. In addition, they also have many books about Singapore's history. This is definitely the right place if you want to start to know your motherland.
I was kind of in a hurry taking photos since I wasn't sure if it was allowed?! Oops, I guess it was, haha. But people were staring, so...
Anyway, they have ladders if you want to grab books from higher shelves which I feel is pretty cool and increases space for books.
At the back of the cafe, they have this sort of peranankan style type of items - some of which are handmade, for sale. There are also seats where you can sit and enjoy your books with a drink. Something to note: they only offer drinks, no food.
After exiting the row of shophouses, I saw this long building with 1982 on it.
Shoes of the day. Ought to have worn sports shoes though, except I don't have any.
Next stop: Tiong Bahru
See what I see? SEAB Hahaah. Never thought I would find it here.
While on my way to the next destination, I discovered some pretty old buildings which looked quite worthy to capture. However, I was already sweating a lot at that point in time and just wanted to get some air-con. It's okay, I will come back for you.
Found Forty Hands Coffee! I originally wanted to get some coffee here as it was much raved by reviews but abandoned the thought since it was full house. -.- Oh, why are cafes so small? In fact, many of the cafe I went to that day were packed as it was a weekend, so I gave up the thought of trying any food and just took photos
Woods in the Books is a bookstore filled with picture books suited for children. Didn't went in lol, 'cos there were children inside and I would be out of place if I entered.
Supposedly another shop that's opening soon.
Plain Vanilla Bakery!
Bought some cupcakes from there for one of my friend recently and she said it was nice, so food-wise, thumbs up! All that's left it for me to try it sometime haha.
Walking further down the road, I stumbled upon Nana & Bird.

I trusted the sign and went in.
Don't what this huge cupboard is for.
When you enter, you will see clothes and accessories designed by some designers displayed. I can assure you the prices are VERY pretty. Hahaha. But, don't despair and walk deeper into the place.
#ootd
Was really satisfied with this place I found. It has antique stuff, which I really like. Probably the place I was most satisfied with among all the other I went to that day.
Byebye!
Went to Books Actually! It's a rather raved bookstore and I certainly could see why.
Like heaven. My type of heaven. I'd loveeee to work here.
Oh rainbowww.
Some poems strung above.
I love how unique some genres of books are. Oh gosh, purchasing a book here is on my wishlist.
And damn, this kitty is so cute!
Heh, found one of my favorite mystery series as a child.
There's an entrance to this room in the corner of the store for gift ideas. I must say they put loads of effort into it.
Of course, Tiong Bahru has no lack of food places. What matters is only how far you are willing to travel.
So that was how my adventure alone went! Practically exhausted but it was fun! I have said this before and am saying it again: don't be afraid to try things alone! If you're bored to bits, why not just take some time out to explore your home country? For me, I discovered places of SG I never knew. Since then, I decided that I would continue exploring parts of SG. So look forward to more of my adventures! To my friends: if anyone wants to join me on my next adventure, feel free! Just be prepared! And make sure you have your GPS!
P.S. I have an IG for adventure photos or any other photos that I feel is nice, so follow me @xvanneex ! Or you can just click it under the Find me section.
