Hello guys! First of all, throwback to that time where all the flowers were falling. It was such a pretty sight.
So I was happily taking photos...
Until I saw this.
See the rubbish?
I got so angry to see such filthy things spoil a pretty scene. The dustbin wasn't even that far away. Only about 20m.
So typical. Hello? Singapore (SG) has like tons of rubbish bins around. Bet there's one like every 100-200m. Unless the place is really deserted. Even then, there're bus stops, no? With bus stops comes rubbish bins and even if there's none, you can put it in your bag or pocket. U want to talk about hygiene? Ha, excuse me. I know some of you guys don't wash your bags for like months and you call that hygienic ah? Plus, it's only temporarily right? It's not that hard.
According to an article in 2006, a three hour litter watch was conducted in Orchard Road.
"There was a bin roughly every 30m. Despite this, the 12 were caught flicking cigarette butts onto the pavement. Most did so without even a hint of hesitation. Of these, 11 were within 5m of a bin. The ages of this dirty dozen ranged from 19 to 46. " Their reason? Lack of bins or too lazy.
"The number of bins around the island has increased steadily over the past 10 years, the agency said. There are now 7,300 bins along public roads in Singapore."
WAH, so many bins still can say lack of bins hor.
Let's move on to convenience. Some of you say it's very inconvenient to hold that rubbish in your hand if you don't bring a bag and your clothes don't have pockets. Then hold it until you find a rubbish bin. Again, it's not that hard. As mentioned above, SG has, THOUDSANDS of rubbish bins so you'll indenfinitely bump into one if you keep walking. And if you happen to take a bus, it also has a little dust bin near the exit doors. If not, hold it until you get home. Your house has a rubbish bin too. If you're really that concerned about hygiene, then bring Dettol every time you go out. It kills 99.9% of germs.
Now, let us address the advantages and disadvantages. Advantages of littering? Name me one that benefits everyone. Zero. That's because the rest are only benefitting yourself. People are selfish, and this is one good example.
Disadvantages? Plenty.
1. You make your country a dirtier place.
This applies to everyone in the whole wide world. One litter may not seem much, but there are tons of people littering at the same time.
2. You create more work for the cleaning aunties and uncles.
Sure, it's their job to ensure the place is clean. But they don't deserve that extra work you're giving them by littering. YOU also play a part in keeping your environment clean. If you can keep your own house clean, why not outside too? It's just asking you not to throw anything on the floor but in the dust bins.
3. It spreads.
Yep, like everything else, like kpop spreading all over the world, littering spreads too. If you see one person littering, then you'll think that it's not that bad to litter. So you'll probably do it too. If another person sees you, it goes on. However, you do know that our younger generation, those little cute children, will also see what you are doing? Children are easily influenced.
There are more disadvantages but you guys should know it.
True, I don't deny that foreigners in SG also play a huge role in keeping our country clean, but shouldn't we fix our own habits first before pinpointing others? Hopefully, those inconsiderate people will start correcting this bad habit.
There, rant done. Still, thanks for reading!
